Design, quality and respect are three words that have always been key components of the work philosophy of the Danish carpet manufacturer ege. By daring to be different, the company has succeeded over the years in establishing itself as one of Europe's leading carpet manufacturers.
Know-how, ground-breaking design, uncompromising quality and regard for the environment and indoor climate are important parameters at ege and an integral part of the company's philosophy.
The group manufactures millions of square metres of carpets every year for business and residential use. The manufacture takes place at three factories. The group is today a global company with subsidiaries in Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the UK, China and the United Arab Emirates and additionally has agents and distributors in over 48 countries. Carpets for business use are sold to hotels, offices, institutions and projects in the transport and health sectors.
At ege, the work with CSR is an integral part of day-to-day life and has been so for many years. It is ege's CSR objective to contribute to a more sustainable world by constantly improving the company's ability to manage environmental, social and economic challenges. The CSR work includes everything from the handling of excess yarn and environmental improvements to projects targeting health, exercise and charity. ege has adopted the UN Global Compact and has implemented a number of management systems at its factories in Denmark: quality management in accordance with ISO 9001, environmental management in accordance with ISO 14001 and EMAS, as well as health and safety management in accordance with OHSAS 18001.
"From carpet waste to new carpets". This is the recipe behind ege's latest series of carpet tiles, Ecoline, in which the company's own waste yard has been used for the production of the carpet. In that way, the product series helps minimise the impact from ege's production while at the same time reducing the environmental footprint of the carpets. Ecoline consists of 100% recycled fibres. In this context, ege applies the Cradle to Cradle philosophy in collaboration with EPEA and Cradle to Cradle Denmark.
ege's climate vision is to be an energy-efficient company in which both management and employees actively assume responsibility for the climate. In collaboration with the Danish power company DONG Energy, the company has prepared an ambitious climate strategy: ege's objective is to reduce the company's CO2 emissions by 20% by 2015. By purchasing sustainable energy, the climate strategy also promotes the use of this particular form of energy in Denmark.
