Danish companies have caught sight of Myanmar (formerly Burma). In April 2012, the EU suspended its trade sanctions, and thus the country was open to investment from the U.S. and Europe. Since then, many trade delegations visited the country, and in August 2014 Denmark opens its own embassy.
In this initial phase, the Danish companies may be on shaky ground when it comes to addressing risks and opportunities in terms of running a responsible business. What are the risks most material to our business? How can business and CSR go hand in hand? How do we address challenges related to human rights, labour rights, corruption and environmental issues? And how can we contribute to sustainable development?
Here, we present the very first experience of how Danish companies address corporate social responsibility when they start business in Myanmar.
